Must-Have Books for Back-to-School

Each year, I look forward to pulling out my back-to-school books to help prepare us for the new school year. We read these books to help ease the back-to-school jitters, and then we reread them during the first few weeks of school, too! Here are some of my favorites:

Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes by James Dean: Pete the Cat confidently explores his school in his new shoes, showing that school can be a fun adventure.

Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten by Joseph Slate: Miss Bindergarten prepares her classroom for the first day of kindergarten, making it a welcoming place for her students.

Themes: Preparation, Excitement, Community

The Night Before Kindergarten by Natasha Wing: Kids prepare for their first day of kindergarten, feeling both excited and nervous about the new adventure.

Themes: Anticipation, Reassurance, New Beginnings

 

The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn: Chester Raccoon finds comfort in a kiss from his mother, which helps him feel secure on his first day of school.

Our Class is a Family by Shannon Olsen: This book emphasizes that a classroom is a community where everyone belongs and supports each other.

All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold: Children of diverse backgrounds come together to learn and play in an inclusive school environment.

The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson: Kids learn to share their unique stories and embrace what makes them different.

Themes: Acceptance, Courage, Empathy

 

 

The Queen of Kindergarten by Derrick Barnes: MJ starts kindergarten with confidence, feeling empowered and ready for her new role.

Themes: Confidence, Empowerment, Enthusiasm
